Fairer subs for NUJ members
Following a motion debate at the NUJ Delegates Meeting in April 2016, a fairer system of subscriptions for members comes into play from October 1st. Previous subs were based on the sector a member worked within, which no longer gives a good indication of income. New members will be placed on the new rates, current members can choose to stay on their current rate or move to the new rates – get in touch with the membership department if you’d like information on changing your subs.
As of 1 October 2016 the cost of full membership is based on your current annual earnings. There are three grades, listed below.
Grade 1: Members earning up to £20,000 (€24,000) per annum.
Grade 2: Members earning between £20,001 (€24,001) and £29,000 (€36,000) per annum.
Grade 3: Members earning over £29,000 (€36,000) per annum.
Reduced rates and other types of membership
No member should pay more than 1 per cent of their gross taxable income in NUJ contributions subject to a minimum rate of £10 a month (£120 a year)/ €11.50 a month (€138 a year). Any member earning less than £13,600 should only pay the minimum rate.
There are also rates for temporary freelance, students and associate members.
